This article is really about SDL (self-directed learning) and highlights Edward Deci’s self-determination theory, which I’ve always found to be highly relevant. We need to facilitate intrinsic motivation – it needs to come from inside. “However, as educators we should not focus on generating more motivation from our learners but instead focus on creating conditions that facilitate the internalization of motivation from within our learners.”
